Our skilled physicians are able to prescribe any conventional medication, but of course prefer using natural remedies and prayer for the recovery of our patients. For over sixty years Wildwood has been using nature to heal the body with great success in the areas of Hydrotherapy, Massage, Exercise, Diet, and Botanical Medicine.
Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy is the internal or external use of water in any of its three forms—liquid, steam, or ice—for the treatment of disease or trauma. Here at Wildwood Lifestyle Center and Hospital, we have the capacity to give over 30 different types of hydrotherapy treatments, including:
- Whirlpools
- Steam baths
- Saunas
- Hot and cold showers
- Fomentations
The treatments may last from 20 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the condition of the patient and the severity of the case.
Massage
All of our guests receive a 15-minute massage every other day from one of our experienced massage and hydro-therapists. Massage helps the circulation, aids in relaxation, relieves tight, hurting muscles, improves the immune system, and brings fresh blood to the areas needed. Massage is combined with the hydrotherapy treatment to give maximum health benefits to our patients. We have a comfortable spa that is well equipped with massage tables and special oils to suit our guests' different needs.
Exercise
Exercise is invaluable in promoting wellness, resistance to disease, and recovery from disease. One common feature of many chronic diseases is that the ability of the “power plants” of cells to produce energy is compromised. This is known as a "mitochondrial
deficiency", and it is a condition that is involved in chronic conditions such as:
- Obesity
- Diabetes
- Congestive heart failure
- And many others
The good news is that regular exercise increases the number and relative volume of these powerhouses in skeletal results. Regular, moderate aerobic exercise slows the heart rate, lowers triglycerides, elevates HDL (the “good” cholesterol), keeps the arteries elastic, and increases the number and efficiency of white blood cells, which help the body combat viruses and cancer more successfully.
At Wildwood, your physician will first evaluate your fitness level and then recommend a course of the best form of exercise known - terrain therapy - also known as "walking." From flat walkways to rolling hills, Wildwood has a delightful variety of trails and routes to accommodate a wide range of physical abilities. If you are unsteady on your feet, we have parallel bars and a physical therapist to help you regain better balance. In addition, we provide a daily stretch class under the supervision of a trained instructor, and you have the additional option of working out in the exercise room using resistance exercises should you so choose. If you're still feeling unmotivated, your personal lifestyle coach is never far away to offer that timely support and encouragement!
Diet Counseling
Diet counseling is an important part of the treatment of all of our patients. It is a well-established truth that there is a direct link between diet and health. During your stay, you will be interviewed about your previous nutritional choices and receive feedback and advice on what dietary plan is best for enhancing healing and boosting your immune system.
Botanical Medicine
Botanical medicine is the use of plants as an aid to healing. Plants are used for their medicinal values, especially in stimulating the immune system and quickening your recovery. Botanical medicine offers the benefits of drugs without the marked side effects.
